Free Yourself of Acid Reflux Drug Addiction

By Charles Stewart Richey Recent statistics from the US Department of Health and Human Services suggest that over seven million people suffer from severe acid reflux in the U.S. alone. It is estimated that over fifteen million Americans suffer from chronic heartburn, as well. The incidence of acid reflux is greater in people over the age of forty, but it can affect anyone, even infants. Acid reflux affects people of every age, socioeconomic class and race. Simply put, acid reflux occurs when stomach acid splashes up through the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) into the esophagus and throat. This reflux of acid can be the result of many things including diet, alcohol consumption, smoking, hiatal hernia, stress and even pregnancy. When this refluxed acid hits the tender lining of the esophagus, it causes a painful burning sensation in the chest and, or throat. Other symptoms include difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia), hoarseness, asthma and dental erosion. If left untreated, this condition can evolve into more severe and life threatening diseases like Barretts Esophagus, which is a precursor to esophageal cancer. In an attempt to avoid the more serious consequences of acid reflux, people are resorting more and more to pharmaceutical drugs. There are three classifications of drugs which treat and acid reflux. The first of these are antacids, which neutralize the acid in your stomach and are at best only a temporary fix. They are loaded with harmful ingredients such as sodium and aluminum. The next group of drugs is called H2 Blockers. They reduce the amount of acid that the stomach produces and provide longer lasting relief than antacids. Finally there are the PPI drugs (proton pump inhibitors), which shut off the proton pumps in the stomach that manufacture hydrochloric acid. PPI drugs should only be used for eight weeks, at most. It says so right on the package. Doctors certainly know this but allow if not encourage most patients to continue taking these drugs on a permanent basis. PPI drugs actually shut down the pumps that produce the stomach acid necessary to digest and assimilate food. This is an essential function of our physical anatomy. Another point of concern is that stomach acid keeps very dangerous bacteria, which live in the stomach and intestines, in check. There are, unfortunately, no studies that can determine the long term effects of these drugs. We do, however, know what the potential harmful side effects are and there are hundreds of them. They include: allergic reaction, back and chest pain, fatigue, fever, flu-like disorder, hypertension, constipation, GI hemorrhage, vomiting, tinnitus, anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, weight gain, arthritis, fibromyalgia syndrome, anorexia, depression, dizziness, impotence, insomnia, migraine, visual field defect, menstrual disorder, asthma aggravated, pharyngitis, acne, taste loss, fungal infection and Barretts esophagus just to mention a few! The medical community would have us believe that drugs are the only answer to the problem of acid reflux. Doctors are not taught nutrition or natural healing techniques in med school. As a result they depend on prescription drugs to treat the symptoms of acid reflux disease. They unfortunately know nothing about how to cure the condition itself. PPI drugs are very big business. Annual global sales for PPI drugs alone reached well over six billion dollars in 2002. One can only guess what those statistics are today. One can only imagine the extent of the damage these drugs are causing people all over the world. I am happy to say that we are not limited to pharmaceuticals in order to rid ourselves of the acid reflux condition. There are many alternative techniques and procedures which can be employed to accomplish that end. As a veteran of the acid reflux drug battle, I am living proof that one can heal themselves of acid reflux by using what I call natural medicine. When I found out that my doctor had exhausted all possibilities of helping me, outside of the PPI drug regime, I knew that I was on my on. I had to heal myself. To my surprise, through research and study, I found that curing acid reflux disease is really quite simple. With a few modest changes in lifestyle and with the help of several natural remedies, one can absolutely win the battle against acid reflux without the use of drugs. There are many natural ingredients found in any health store, which can help during the acid reflux recovery period. Herbs, such as marshmallow, slippery elm and bladderwrack have wonderful healing properties. Aloe vera, licorice and natural honey can sooth the esophagus and assist in the healing process. Chewing gum between meals actually neutralizes stomach acid. There are many simple things which contribute to the acid reflux condition which most people overlook; insufficient water consumption is one of them. Eating too rapidly and chewing food improperly is another. Eating smaller, more frequent meals is helpful. Substituting Kukicha Twig tea for coffee makes the body more alkaline. Have fruit, like bananas and melons instead of cereal for breakfast. Snacks of walnuts, almonds and more fruit will keep you going throughout the day. At dinner eat lightly and at least two hours before retiring. You certainly dont have to starve yourself, but try to stay away from those acid reflux trigger foods. It does take a new approach to life, in general, to heal a stubborn acid reflux condition. Think of it as an exciting challenge. You will feel so much better and your health will improve. It will have been worth the effort. In a society where convenience sometimes takes precedence over common sense, pills have taken the place of ancient healing techniques and natural therapies. Drugs taken on a regular basis can be more dangerous than the illness itself. Take command of your health and use natural resources to free yourself of those acid reflux drugs. 2006 Wind Publishing For free recipes, articles and information, visit: http://www.refluxgoneforever.com Charles Stewart Richey is a self-educated expert on how to cure acid reflux disease by natural means. Actions Speak Louder Than Words When It Comes To Attracting Women

By Teddy Shabba It is possible for a man to attract a woman without ever saying a word or at least a word she understands. Yet, it is almost impossible for a man to attract a woman only using words, or at least attract her and do anything besides talk to her. Which is the problem for most men as they usually can talk about what they would like to do or are going to do with women, but hardly ever take the action or steps necessary in order to get what they want from women. Men who are successful at getting what they want from women take the actions and steps necessary to get what they want. The basics of these steps look something like this: If you want to meet women you must approach womenIf you want to go out with women you must have somewhere to go and invite them there.If you want to have sex with women you must touch women and take her clothes off as well as yours.It really is that simple and if you haven’t mastered the basics of this… …reading and talking about the different types of ways to take those most basics of steps, means absolutely nothing if you don’t take the steps. It is true that some ways of taking steps are better than others yet the only way that almost never works and leaves you with what you get is taking no steps at all. In the end, reading and learning about all the different types of steps you can take only will work for you if you are already taking steps. Otherwise, you simply will know a whole lot about things you never actually do. Self Scan Grocery Check Out - Enhancement or Nightmare?

By Felicia A. Williams Have you ever used the self-scan when checking out your groceries? Man, what an experience. I usually do my shopping early in the morning before my two cups of coffee have had a chance to wear off. The stores aren’t too crowded and I can power walk up and down the isles tossing food in the cart left and right. I stop occasionally to put on my extra pair of eyes to make sure that I’m not buying a cart full of trans fats and sugars, otherwise it’s smooth sailing. I love to food shop; nothing to try on, kids are in school so no distractions. A very pleasant experience. To make things even better, there are now the self scan isles. Whoa, I must be in heaven. Not only do I get to really play out my childhood fantasy of being a cashier (back then you actually had to touch the keys on the cash register, hear the cha-ching sound. Afterwards, you had to be able to correctly count out change, but I digress), I also get my morning workout of lifting scanning and bagging at breakneck speed (coffee does that you know). I’m ecstatic to be able to take the contents of my cart, scan the little black lines accurately past a little 5 inch square window and then toss the groceries onto the conveyor belt. I’m in heaven until… WHAM, Like a brick, a very loud female voice erupts from somewhere behind the little scan window “PLEASE SCAN YOUR ABC STORE CARD…SYSTEM PROCESSING…YOUR CARD HAS BEEN ACCEPTED…PLEASE BEGIN SCANNING…” Yikes! No one has yelled at me like that since the time my mother caught me lighting a little fire under my baby brother while he was in his high chair! Eeeooouuussa! Where is this screaming wench? Come on out from behind that scanning window. I’ve got a little something for you, it’s a wonderful product called duct tape. C’mon, show yourself. Not being one to cause a fuss, I obeyed the loud computer voice and begin scanning. Hmm, I’ll start with the peaches…beep (the sound of the scan) TWO NINETY NINE…SAVINGS…FIFTY CENTS…PLACE YOUR PEACHES ON THE BELT. I turn around to my neighboring isle, Did you get that? Yes, they’re on sale. Everyone in the store knows I bought peaches. Beep FIVE SIXTY NINE…PLACE YOUR BATTERIES ON THE BELT. Okay, I finally try to get used to the screaming banshee in the computer when my organic grapes won’t scan. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR …ITEM…FROM THE BELT…HELP IS REQUIRED. Argh!! I look up and down the isle for help and help is nowhere to be found. (I’m feeling pressure, the line in back of me is getting longer.) Ah, the heck with it. I’ll forego the…IF YOU ARE FINISHED SCANNING PLEASE PRESS FINISH AND PAY. How rude! I’m in the middle of deciding what to do with the grapes. Urgh! I ditch the grapes and keep scanning until the blaring voices says THE BAGGING AREA IS FULL, PLEASE BAG YOUR GROCERIES BEFORE SCANNING. Of course as I stop to bag, the impatient obnoxious loud voice screams IF YOU ARE FINISHED SCANNING PLEASE PRESS FINISH AND PAY (why I ought a…) Groceries bagged, I continue to scan my items until my cart is empty. I press the appropriate button to terminate this little adventure as yelled to me by the computer. YOUR TOTAL IS ONE HUNDRED SIXTY TWO DOLLARS AND SEVENTY-SEVEN CENTS. Ok, my discreet little shopping trip is now front page news. I scan my debit card to which the computer voice booms, PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE PIN PAD (no duh, you mean you don’t get to yell at me further?) I take care of the payment. THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING AT ABC STORE, DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR RECEIPT. Can’t we mute these things? Aside from the fact that I place My Two Cents on the world wide web for everyone to see, I’m really a very private person. I wish the self scan computer woman would realize this! That’s my two cents and I’m sticking with it. Simplify: Give up Expensive Marketing Tactics

By Troy Evans Traditional marketing methods are expensive, time-consuming, frustrating and all too often the lone focus of a speakers efforts. Meeting planners are swamped and have an endless stream of choices. Their mailboxes are overflowing with promotional packets and their voice mails stuffed with speakers pleas. When it comes to marketing, I believe that many in my industry as well as others involved in marketing complicate the issue, and that simplicity is the best policy. In October 2000 I became a full-time speaker, jumping into the profession without a part-time job to make ends meet, no credit and very little savings. Since bank robbery was no longer an option, I had to develop a marketing plan that was cheap, easy and would quickly result in paid gigs. The first year I turned a profit, the second year I turned a substantial profit and now, entering my fifth year in the business, I speak as much or as little as I want to. In this chapter, Id like to share that marketing plan with you. What little marketing my office does is exclusively via email, and requests for additional information are directed through my web site. My only large initial investment was made in identity design and website development. By having a site that is professionally done, easy to navigate and properly indexed, it can provide meeting planners with all the information they need to make a decision. I do not incur the time or costs associated with mass mailings or large print runs of marketing materials, and my office never makes cold calls- ever. The promotional material I do send is specifically tailored to each target group. One-sheets are printed as blank templates, with high-quality photos, graphics and titles only. Customized program descriptions, specifically targeted to each industry are then printed on demand or simply e-mailed in PDF format. Potential clients that see me as a specialist in their industry are more likely to respond than those who receive material with generic appeal. Pre-qualifying those who receive your material dramatically reduces overhead. No one receives a packet from my office until the following facts have been established: They know what my program(s) consist of, either through my website or word of mouth;
They know my full fee;
My fee is within their budget;
They must have the authority to hire me; and
They must have an upcoming venue in which professional speakers are utilized. Too many people just enjoy getting mail- they wont be getting mine. E-Mail
Identify your target group, go to their website and send a simple e-mail to the meeting planner, President, President-elect, anyone who looks like they may be part of the decision-making process. The message is customized to include their group name, an introduction of your program that encourages a trip to your website, and a bit of name dropping. This is particularly effective if you have a glowing testimonial from one of their colleagues. Either paste an excerpt in to the body of your message or include a link to the full testimonial on your website. Nothing sells like a good word from their own. Send out e-mails only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This way, your message is less likely to be discarded as people skim their full in-boxes on Monday morning. If you get a reply stating they do not want to be contacted this way in the future, it is important that you respect their wishes. After a presentation or any mingling event, be sure to ask for a list of attendees and e-mail addresses. Some organizations and associations have strict policies against sharing this information, but many dont. Send a thank you note that directs them to your website. It is a great way to build your database, sell additional product, get people to sign up for your e-zine and just generally keep you in mind. Increase Your Exposure
During the original negotiations with your client, receive permission to have a few guests present during your presentation for preview purposes. Any guests that do attend your presentations are going to hire you if you do your job on the platform. This is a wonderful negotiating tool if the client cannot meet your full fee. Determine an exact allowance of table space and make it clear that your guests will be there to preview you only, not to partake in the meal, sessions or any other aspect of the event. When sending invitations, indicate that there are x number of spaces available that will be reserved on a first-to-reply basis. Even if you extend an invitation to a total stranger, youll be amazed at how warmly people respond when you are offering rather than asking. Local calendar- Contact the Hotels, Convention Center, Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce within the city you are visiting. Either visit their website, send an email or call the sales department and introduce yourself as a professional speaker, coming to town for an engagement. Ask about Associations or companies that may be holding events around the same time as your visit. For some there will be a policy of confidentiality and they will not share this list with you, but many will. Then, pull up the company or associations website and e-mail the decision makers an invitation. Printed material and video can never sell like a live presentation! Database- Pull up every warm lead in your database that resides in the general area of where you are presenting, and call or shoot him or her an e-mail letting them know that you are coming their way. Seeing you in action may be just the thing to get them off the fence and on to your calendar. Target Groups- We all have or should have specific groups that make up our bread-and-butter. For me personally, education, banking and credit unions, counseling/social work, HR professionals- these sectors encompass about 50 percent of my engagements, with each target group being comprised of state associations or individual companies that would jump at the chance to see me live as a way to preview my presentation. You take away the uncertainty and nervousness that meeting planners feel- they see exactly what they are getting. You are getting the idea- shoot them an email. Bureaus- Stop wasting time and money sending unsolicited packets and videos. If you have ever visited a bureau’s office, you have witnessed the infamous closet where all the promotional packet and videos are kept for review. They are inundated with material and cannot possibly get to them all, as they receive dozens of inquiries a week. If you are going to a city where a bureau is located, make a phone call and invite a representative to preview your presentation. If nobody is able to attend, offer to stop by the office for a quick introduction. A face-to-face impression will keep your name fresh in their minds when clients call. NSA Chapters or any organization you are a member of- Contact the state chapter and inquire about their monthly meeting. Offer to also present while in town, and while they are usually set months in advance, you never know when a cancellation will come up. This is a great networking opportunity, and you will be surprised how your business will bloom if your colleagues know your program. Press- Look up and contact every major (and minor) newspaper within the general area. Contact every department, area or section you think may be interested in your topic. Let the editor(s) and/or reporter(s) know your coming their way, invite them to visit your website, and let the coverage begin. It’s fast, free and easy- and the paper loves it because a newsworthy event falls right into their lap. Think Outside the Box
I have several shirts that have printed on them both front and back, I am a Professional Speaker, ask Me What I Talk About. When traveling, particularly in the larger airports I will wear one of these shirts and am amazed how many people Ask Me What I Talk About (I do not do this if I am exhausted following an engagement or multiple engagements where I just want to curl up in the corner of the airport and rest my eyes). Think about how many CEOs, Executive Directors, and other Decision Makers are in airports! I have even taken this one step further and have given them to family and friends who are familiar with my topics (My brother is a Professional SpeakerMy Son is a Professional SpeakerMy friend is a Professional Speaker, etc.). For them I offer a commission for each engagement that can be traced back day they wore one of my shirts and they love the attention and extra money! Marketing does not have to be time-consuming, expensive, or a dreaded part of any business. My office enjoys our marketing methods because in most cases we are dealing with warm leads and are offering people something that does not come around very often- an opportunity to see me for free! If a beginner, this is a great way to get started with minimal cost and I can guarantee you that Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs will gladly let you have guests. If a seasoned pro, you should have a gold mine of contacts. Implement these ideas and you will witness leaps and bounds in referrals, references and your phone ringing. And the best part its cheap! Why Are Abdominals Important?

By B Shelton You need to know the answer to “Why are abdominals important?”, before you begin an abdominal workout program or routine. By knowing how your abdominal muscles function, you will be better able to target your routines and avoid injury or strain. This will make you better prepared to successfully achieve your fitness goals, whatever they may be. You already know that sleek toned abs are sexy, but do you know what your abdominals actually do? Your abdominals are located between your pelvis and your ribs, on the frontal midsection of your body. The abdominal muscle group is in charge of allowing a full range of movement for your upper body, and keeping your internal organs in place and protected. Abdominals are essentially made up of four main parts, and each needs to be healthy and strong for you to be healthy and to achieve the flat, firm midsection you desire. 1. Transversus abdominus
2. Rectus abdominus
3. External oblique
4. Internal oblique Transversus abdominus This is the innermost layer of muscle. It is charged with maintaining internal body pressure and stabilizing your body’s trunk. Rectus abdominus This muscle group is located at the front of your pelvis, between your pubic bone and your ribs. It is responsible for the “six pack” shape of the abdominal group and is also responsible for side to side and up and down movements. External obliques Situated on both sides of your abdomen, the external obliques help maintain abdominal pressure and allow you to perform twisting motions. Internal obliques These are the middle abdominal muscles, located just below the external obliques on each side of your abdomen, inside of your hip bones. They aid in the performance of twisting and leaning motions. The basic structure of your abdomen should be throughly understood before beginning an abdominal training program. The final thing to learn is why you need your abdominals to function properly. Although many people think that the only benefit to having firm, toned abs is to increase your self-image and sex-appeal, they perform a medically necessary purpose, as well. Strong, firm abs are necessary to help prevent back and neck injury and pain. This is because the abdominal muscles provide support to keep your body upright and well balanced. If your abdominals are weak, you are setting yourself up for possible injury down the road, as well as making it much less likely that you will achieve your goals. Now that you know the answer to “Why are abdominals important?”, you can begin your quest for stronger, fitter abs better informed, and thus better prepared. Good luck on your journey to a healthier, stronger, and more attractive you. Six Pack Abs Guide. Five Easy Tips for Beating Festive Season Fat Traps - Without Starving Yourself

By Alan Cooper Remember that feeling of delicious excitement that we used to feel as kids at the approach of the end of year holidays? Sadly, for many of us it’s been replaced with a sense of dread and not just at the prospect of opening our credit card bill in January! For some an even bigger fear awaits - the prospect of facing the bathroom scale after weeks of festive food and drink. It wasn’t for nothing that they once called holidays like Christmas “feast days”. Back in medieval times these feasts were rare islands of indulgence in oceans of famine lasting for months. In the developed world these days, the closest we get to famine is when we work through lunch. It can be a battle to keep our weight under control in the face of everyday food temptations. End of year feasts can tip us right over the edge. But it need not be like that. Here are five simple tips to beat the festive season fat traps and the inevitable guilt that follows. You’ll be relieved to hear that none of them involves starving yourself. In fact, the first tip actually advises the exact opposite 1) Eat a good breakfast This may seem counter-productive, but this advice applies to everyday life, so why change it over the holidays? Many people sleep in and skip breakfast during the holidays. By the time lunch or dinner comes along they’re ravenous and cram far more into their mouths than they would normally. I’m assuming, of course that your usual breakfast is a sensible, healthy one. Starting off the day with a stack of pancakes, grits, bacon and six eggs is NOT a good way to start the day, holiday or no holiday! 2) Drink at least eight glasses of water a day You should be drinking plenty of water each day anyway. Over the holidays this is even more important. We all tend to drink more alcohol or sugary sodas over holiday periods. I’m not going to be a killjoy and suggest you deny yourself these indulgences, but try to alternate each “bad” drink with a glass of water. If it’s a glass of sparkling mineral water, with a slice of lime in it, you won’t look or feel out of place. Your head and stomach will thank you the next morning. 3) Fill up on fiber Drink one of you eight or more glasses of water half an hour to forty minutes before the main meal, along with a fiber supplement. There’s no need to buy an expensive, over-hyped diet aids like ZetaCap or FiberThin, either. A product like Metamucil is far cheaper and just as effective. You’ll feel fuller by the time the food arrives, so you’ll eat less. And thanks to the additional fiber in your diet, the food won’t hang around in your digestive system for as long, which means less of it will be absorbed to eventually find its way onto your waist or thighs. 4) Pace yourself This applies to the festive season as a whole and to each of the big meals you encounter over this period. By all means enjoy these feasts, but resist the temptation to turn every day between Thanksgiving and New Year into a feast day. When presented with a table groaning with all manner of delectable treats, the natural response is to heap your plate high with as much of everything you can fit on it. Go instead for more, but smaller helpings. Have a slice of turkey with some greens. Then go back for a slice of gammon and potatoes. Hmm, that sauerkraut looks good Chew slowly and talk to your friends and family. Feasts are by their nature leisurely affairs. Use this to your advantage and take your time. This way your stomach will have plenty of time to register that it’s full, which is not the case when you scoff down a huge plate of food. The bonus is that you actually get to enjoy dessert, rather than forcing it down out of sense of obligation. 5) Take a hike Yes, the holidays do offer more culinary temptations. But they also offer more opportunities for fun, fat burning activities. Go for a leisurely swim or walk on the beach if you live in a warm climate. If not, take a relaxing hike in the woods with your kids. Or cuddle up to your significant other in front of a blazing fire which is sure to lead to one of the most effective and enjoyable forms of exercise! Happy holidays! Marketing a Private Practice: Mistake #1: Trying to Be All Things To All People

By Juliet Austin When healing professionals market their practice, they often attempt to cover all bases by trying to appeal to all types of people with all sorts of problems. Often this stems from a fear that if you dont attract everyone you wont fill your private practice. While there are successful generalists out there, in the current competitive market it is wise to target your marketing efforts to a specific population(s) you want to work with. Why is this the case? In the first place, people like to hire those who they view as being experts because there is an expectation that they will then get the best service possible. Think of what you do when hiring someone. For example, if you had chronic back pain and had a choice between hiring an alternative health practitioner who was a generalist or someone who specialized in that area, who are you more likely to hire? Second, you will have a better idea of where to market your private practice if you know who you are marking to. For example, if you treat pregnant women, you can target your marketing to those specific groups instead of focusing on the general population which wont be as effective. Third, targeting a specific market makes it easier for people to find you and understand how you might help them. In the long run, you will become better known for what you do, attract more suitable clients, and provide a higher quality service. In the end, this is better for your clients in addition to being better for your pocketbook.
