Love is Not Enough

By Helene Rothschild Do you feel disappointed and like a failure because you love your partner but you still have many painful conflicts? If you answered yes to the above question, know that you are not alone in your frustrations. Somehow, most of us have mistakenly been led to believe that love is enough to sustain an intimate relationship. The truth is that it takes much more than love to be in harmony with another. As a practicing psychotherapist, I have counseled many individuals and couples who were having problems in their relationships. In every case, when I helped the clients release their fears, hurts, anger, and resentments, they instantly were in touch with their love feelings. The love was always there underneath all their pain. Love was never the problem. And love was not enough. What else does it take to experience harmonious, fulfilling relationships? First of all, I discovered that the most important ingredient is loving yourself. We have heard or read about the popular concept that women (or men) love too much. Quite the contrary, I have found that the real problem is that people do not love themselves enough. Therefore, with low self-esteem they are willing to put up with unhealthy relationships. You may want to try this process to check out your self-esteemyour foundation for a successful relationship. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax. Then rate your self-esteem by seeing or sensing a number from one to ten, with ten being high. Now imagine that you are seeing an image of yourself standing in front of you. Tell the image of yourself what he/she needs to do in order to raise his/her self-esteem. Now visualize yourself acting out in the future what you need to do in order to experience more self-love. Take two deep breaths and open your eyes. You may want to write down the information you just received. You may also want to plan a time when you can follow-up on your suggestion to help you raise your self-esteem. Finally, congratulate yourself for being willing to tune into your inner wisdom, and to explore some solutions. Other ways to help you love yourself include reading self-help books, listening to self-help tapes, attending workshops and support groups, and if necessary seeking professional counseling. It takes a lot of courage to say, I need help, and to reach out for it. The second necessary component in a successful relationship is good communication. If you are struggling in your interactions with others, there is a good chance that you can use improvement in this area. Make a commitment to yourself to learn better ways to express your thoughts and feelings, and to solve your problems. Your investment in the time, energy, and money will have excellent returns. With constructive communication, and with self love, you are well on your way to having the relationship you desire. Other valuable pieces to the puzzle are two individuals having similar morals, values, interests, and goals. These are important elements to explore before you commit yourself to marriage. However, sometimes these factors change later on in life and cause irresolvable conflicts. For example, one partner may change their religious or spiritual beliefs, and find out that their partner is unwilling to follow. In those cases, it is important to honor each others choices, and support each other to pursue his/her individual patheven if it means separation. Still another ingredient necessary to make relationships work I will express with the following saying: People who grow together stay together. Often clients had serious marital problems because one of them chose to focus on their growth, while the other remained stagnant. As a result, they found themselves in two different places, and were no longer compatible. Love was not enough to keep them together. The following brief questionnaire may help you to decide whether to commit to marriage, or to become aware of areas you may need to strengthen with your loved one. Place a check before the pieces which you feel confident that you have in your relationship. ___I love myself (my self-esteem is at least an eight). ___I love my partner (who also has a self-esteem of eight or higher). ___My partner and I have good communication, and we work out win-win
solutions. ___We have the same morals and values. ___We share similar interests. ___We are best friends. ___We have similar goals. ___We are both growing, open to changing, and exploring our full potential. Know that you deserve to have the loving, fulfilling relationship that you desire. The Secret of How to Change Your Marriage

By Nancy Wasson Do you hope every day that your spouse will change in some way? That he (or she) will finally see the light and recognize the error of his ways? Theres nothing wrong with wanting a spouse to change as long as you dont stop there. If you dont take the next step, at some point youll start to feel helplessly dependent on your spouses choices and will be in danger of adopting a victim mentality. Many spouses dont know the secret of how to change a marital relationship into something different than it is currently. The temptation is to view change as rooted in the other person or out there somewhere outside of your control. But, in reality, the ability to create change lies within you. You may have heard the saying, Change is an inside job. Its true. And when you change yourself, then your relationship with your spouse, family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and acquaintances will also change. This past week, I received an email from a woman Ill call Annie. Annie was writing to tell me how much help she had received from the Keep Your Marriage book and bonus materials. I could tell from reading Annies email that she really understood the impact that making personal changes can have on a marriage. Annie has granted her permission for me to share her email with you in hopes that it will provide help and inspiration. Here is an excerpt from her email: My husband moved out saying he was unhappy but would say no more. I have spent the past few months in hell, but your advice gave me something to work on. I have now changed myself, my friends have noticed a big difference in me, and on New Years Eve, my husband, unprompted, told me he loved me. His leaving was a huge wakeup call for me, and although we still have things to work through, the important thing is that we are together. I will continue to eliminate those 21 marriage busters (I cringed when I realized I was guilty of every single one) and I have every hope that we will be celebrating many more wedding anniversaries. Thank you again, and keep the daily email tips comingthey serve as a reminder that one can never take anything for granted, that love is precious and should be cherished, and that the key to changing your life lies not out there but within. Annie gets it that the secret to changing your marriage and your life lies within yourself. She made changes in herself that eventually made a difference in her marriage. In a follow-up email, Annie writes: …the important thing is to keep trying and dont give in…Im also now a great believer in time…often the effects of the words I said to my husband werent immediate, but given a little time they would sink in and they worked. Before I was the kind of person to demand answers and refuse to accept I dont know as valid. I would pick and chisel away until I thought I had the answer I wanted. I was chiseling away my marriage. There are still improvement to be made, but I have come to believe in this day and age we see films, advertising, etc. and are made to believe we should have this ideal of a marriage, and if its not like that then there is something wrong. They fail to mention that happy marriages take effort and work, that love isnt always automatic but is an affirmation that should be made every day. Id also like to add, before I go, that your advice has helped in other relationships toowith family and friends. Ive become a much nicer person and a happier one too. Its so true that you change the world about you by changing yourself. If I hadnt taken your advice I could be facing a divorce right nowinstead Im starting the New Year with a loving husband and a happy lifethank you again. Annie deserves the credit and kudos for putting consistent, hard work into working on herself. Many spouses read words of advice suggesting changes they can make, but they never implement the changes. Annie resisted the temptation to blame her husband or sit back passively waiting for him to change. Instead, she chose to focus on putting energy and effort into improving herself and making needed changes. By doing so, she created a win-win situation for herself and for her marriage. Now that you know Annies secret to changing her marriage, what are you going to do with this knowledge? If your marriage is going to be substantially different at the end of this calendar year, its time to get moving. Nancy J. Natural Skin Care with Essential Oils - Part 2

By Angela Page Looking good starts with great skin, and essential oils form part of the natural and holistic approach to skin care, leaving you looking and feeling beautiful. Part 1 of this article highlighted that nutrition is central to healthy skin, outlined which oils are suitable to the variety of skin types, and how best to apply them for general skin care. This article focuses on how to manage specific skin care problems with essential oils. Acne
Several essential oils are known for their anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities, as well as their ability to regenerate the skin to a healthy state. These include geranium, bergamot, lavender and lemon. Blemishes
Occassionally a few dry spots may appear on your skin. Firstly, ensure that you are drinking plenty of water. Secondly, make up a mixture of 1 drop each of lavender, lemon and neroli in 5 mL of base oil (eg. jojoba), and apply to the affected area with a cotton tip. Cold Sores
Tea tree oil (undiluted) may be useful in treating the spread of this herpes virus due to its strong anti-viral properties. Broken Veins
These broken capillaries are caused by a number of factors such as alcohol, caffeine, hot and cold elements, insufficient water intake, and inherently delicate or fragile skin. Ensure your skin never dries out and apply treatments which include parseley, chamomile, cypress, geranium or rosemary oils diluted in a heavy base oil. Don’t be Hampered by Cell Phone Legalese

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Karen_Kirby]Karen Kirby Don’t let all the acronyms and other cell phone gobbledygook turn you off from participating in the exciting world of cell phones. You know what it’s like. You get a contract for one of the new cell phone plans. You probably check out the rate, the length of service, and the features that will be available. Then the text gets smaller and, frankly, cleaning the lint out of the dryer is more appealing than trying to wade through all that legalese. When you need help, check the Internet for a cell phone glossary to help you out. And always, be sure to ask your cell phone provider as many questions as you need to to understand the contract. You’ll also find on the Internet that there are genuine cell phone deals out there. You can even get cell phones for free! The catch? You have to be able to figure out the rebate procedure. More cell phone lingo! However, as long as you keep a few things in mind, you should be able to get your cell phone rebate with no problems. First of all, listen carefully when salesperson explains the rebate process and get your questions answered. Make sure you leave the store with your receipt, your rebate form, and everything else you need. As soon as you get home, fill out and mail the rebate paperwork immediately. Or else you might accidentally lose or throw away the box that has the bar code or some other essential item needed for the rebate process. Waiting for your rebate to come in the mail may seem like an eternity, but actually you’ll get your it in 8 weeks or sometimes less. Be sure to cash the check right away before you lose it. Then and only then will you have obtained a cell phone for free or practically for free. Cell phone terminology and procedure doesn’t have to be difficult. All it takes is a little time and patience to get used to it. The Internet provides valuable sources to help you understand all of the in’s and out’s of the different cell phone plans. You will also find each cell phone service provider is more than willing to help you through all of the legalese in the contracts and rebate process. They go through this with customers every day and are expert in answering questions. If you have a question, probably the same question has been asked and answered many, many times already. So don’t try to go it alone. There’s plenty of help out there! Karen Kirby has over 25 years’ experience in the computer industry, an MS in Computer Science, and a BA in Honors English. Seven Qualities to Get a Job You Want

By Carol Miller There are a lot of companies which are employing graduates with strong education background and fluency in several foreign languages. But will you agree that there are quite many candidates meeting the following requirements? How will human resource managers select from all of them? Here your personal and business qualities count. There are some essential features a person should possess to impress the interviewer and get the job. You have graduated!!!! What a relief. You are free to manage your time as you wish. You dont have to think about your term paper topic for hours. You believe that all the difficulties are already behind. Partially it is so, but you still have to walk half of the way. It means that you should find a rewarding and challenging work to apply your education and develop yourself professionally. I will list down a few. Drive - energy and your desire to work. It is your attitude to work, your duties, and responsibilities. Of course you can approach your work formally, fulfilling your major duties with accuracy and on time. Surely, it is very important. But an employee with drive, the person who is enthusiastic and creative about his work is much more interesting for the potential employer. Creativity - your ability to offer exceptional ideas and innovative methods. You have a goal and you are to achieve it. And you suggest your ways of reaching it. This quality is especially important for marketing, advertising, though of course it will present you to advantage in any sphere of business. Result-oriented Can you always complete what you began doing? No matter what difficulties you have while working on it, you are to complete it by the deadline. Resilience - A man was walking, stumbled and fell down, and then he shook himself off and went on further. For example, you are taking part in a group discussion of some urgent problem. The idea you suggested made everyone laugh and no one approved it. You got offended, went into your shell and stopped proving your point of view. Then your resilience is very low. You should be able to stand your ground. Leadership - Employers hire a young specialist hoping that he has a great potential and in ten years time he will become a leader. Not everyone must be a leader and become a top manager afterwards. But a good manager, that is a person able to handle the organization of other people, is indispensable in any respectable company. Team-commitment many companies have a project system of management. Several people are working on some project. The success of the project depends on each member of the team. What matters here is your ability to get on with different people, find common language with all the staff and feel like a united team. One for all and all for one. In any business a strong team is a pledge of successful fulfillment of the project. Communication skills are of primary importance for any sphere, as there is no area where we can do without communication. How to make others listen to you, how to present yourself, how to uphold your point of view. This is a mini list of essential communicative skills. How can the employer know you have all these qualities? You will include them in your resume (e. g. mentioning that at college you were a group monitor and were involved in social activities). Give a brief and precise review of all your successful achievements in your resume. Dont get upset if you lack some of the qualities. As psychologists state you can develop all of them with the help of special exercises and trainings. Of course these qualities are significant not only for work, but of course for life in general. Remember, that we know what we are, but we dont know what we might be. Our resources are endless and thanks God that it is really so! An Online Degree Has Never Been Easier to Obtain

By Shama Sankaran Online education is steadily gaining acceptance in the academic world and more people than ever are completing courses online, working toward a degree. Online education at the higher level is no longer looked down on by the rest of the academic world and more colleges and universities are offering online programs every day. In fact, there are now so many resources available to someone interested in earning a college degree online that they can be hard to keep track of. There are, however, a number of web sites that have been designed to provide something of a resource center for those interested in pursuing online education. The site www.get-online-degree.com is one of these and serves as a fantastic resource. When searching for any online education program, of course, the prospective student will want to make sure that the school is properly accredited. Earning a degree from a school with a poor reputation or from a non-accredited university may not win you any points from prospective employers later in life. Web sites like www.get-online-degree.com help students by providing information about online degree opportunities and developments via posted articles, monthly E-zines, and other such methods designed to keep you informed. Many schools already offer online degrees in several fields and it seems that more are always on the way. Some degrees that will probably never be attainable online (it would be impossible to complete all the required work for a medical degree online, for example) offer the opportunity to have at least some of its courses completed online. Online degrees are going to become more common as time goes on. Online education will become easier to facilitate, is already less costly than running traditional classes, and will show a students drive and initiative better than any other modern method of education, correspondence courses included. The world of online collegiate education is brave and new, evolving at a steady pace, as any relatively new concept will. Sites like www.get-online-degree.com help keep you informed of the changes that could affect you and your ability to earn your degree online. Students today may be the first generation of those able to obtain their degrees online, but they will be looked back on as trailblazers. Thirty, fifty, even one hundred years from now when online education has evolved to the point where it is commonplace, perhaps required, those students will be afforded the chance to look back at the students of today and marvel at the differences in the educational system. Theyll do this in the same way that todays students look at education in the fifties and sixties and cant believe how far weve come. And, of course, those attending school in the fifties and sixties looked back at the changes from the twenties and thirties. And so on. If youd like to learn all you can about the options available in an online degree, visit the web site www.get-online-degree.com today and see all of the amazing information that is available. Tips on How to Buy a Gas Barbeque Grill

By Judy Simpson When it comes to learning how to buy a gas barbeque grill there are several good tips to be found online. We found some excellent advice on buying a gas bbq grill from one grill vendor. Your first consideration that you should think about is knowing how many you’ll be cooking for. While bigger can be better, you also have to consider cost, the amount of fuel you’ll need to have on hand, and the space you have to hold and house your gas bbq grill. Another aspect is knowing how proficient you are in keeping that grill in top notch condition and how much time you want to spend on this. While it’s great to have the best and most feature-prevalent grill, the fancier it is the more parts to service, clean and break.
Paying a little bit more for a quality barbecue may be a sound decision if being built to last several years is an important consideration as you think about which one to choose. Make sure that the gas bbq grill you buy has devices for flame taming that cover the entire burner on your gas grill. This is important because grease is the most damaging ingredient for your grill. You also want the flame tamer to be directly over the gas grill’s burner. The final thing to think about is determining which brand is for you, especially if you are going to buy something simple with hopes of adding on accessories. Some gas grill brands have few accessories, some have many. Some top brands to consider are Weber, Brinkman, and Coleman. Judy Simpson makes it quick and easy to find the best gas grills. Balancing the Apple Cart

By Uma Shankari About forty women squatted in small clusters on the floor in the room. They had assembled for a special meeting of the
self-help groups that would be led by their supervisor. The poor women, whose husbands were marginal farmers, depended on the loans they could secure from the banks through their groups. The meeting concluded as Mangala, the supervisor and project coordinator of Bhoruka Charities, thanked the participants. As
Mahadeva Swamy, her assistant, rose to distribute tea and biscuits, a group of women excused themselves and left, without
having any refreshments. The women, who were either Vokkaligas, Lingayats, Kurubas or Gollas, considered themselves too
“superior” to accept food or drinks offered by Swamy, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste. The people of Madapura, a village in the T.Narsipur taluk near Mysore in the Karnataka State of India, are no different from
their counterparts elsewhere in the country. People dont wear the castes on their sleeves; yet its there on everybodys
mind all the time. The departure of the upper class women set the stage rolling for some lively discussion on the discrimination of people based on caste. “If we distribute the food packets, they will not accept. Thats why madam (Mangala) normally asks somebody from the upper caste to distribute them,” Kantamani laughed derisively, “then they accept and it does not occur to them that some of us might have prepared them.” Even the government schools in the villages did not practise equality. For the government-sponsored midday meals, only cooks belonging to the upper caste are employed. “My son has grown big. He now refuses to eat in school, since they seat the students in different rows based on their castes,” complained Lakshmi. Parvati said if she had to hand over something to those from the upper caste, she had to keep it on the ground. They had to
stand at a safe distance while talking to them. If she collected water from the bore well first, the upper castes cleaned the ‘defiled’ place with cow dung, before proceeding to draw water. “The water comes from the same earth. How does it
matter?” she queried defiantly. Mangala consoled, “They are the ignorant class. Not you.” “If we ever asked water, they wont give it in a glass. We will be asked to cup our hands and they will pour water into it,” Lakshmi said. “When we travel in buses, they may be forced to sit next to us. Sometimes they remain standing to avoid sitting near us. If
they unknowingly sit close to us, some of them go home and take a bath,” Puttalakshmi said, “thats why we never reveal our
castes, if a stranger asks us.” “We can go to the temple, but not inside the sanctum sanctorum like them,” Puttalakshmi continued, People from other
villages can enter inside even if they belong to Scheduled Caste, as nobody knows who they are.” I suggest she too should be bold and enter, but Puttalaksmi says the temple authorities threatened them with fines. People
from other villages did not perhaps know their customs; but she did, so she should not breach the rules purposefully, the priests would reason. Santamma, quiet all along, said thoughtfully,”Its all our karma. If we started breaking rules, however small, we will end up in a group clash. Except shedding some blood, what use will it bring?” Her fear was justified. Vokkaligas or Lingayats were generally landowners and possessed too menacing a political clout for the scheduled caste labourer they employed to protest. There is another reason why they dont protest. They dont see anything wrong with it, except when affronted. They believe
that each caste has its own shastra or code of conduct and upper caste people are just following their ’shastra’. They also believe that their present station in life is dictated by deeds done in their previous birth. One of the interesting comments came from Puttalakshmi who said she would not consider sitting with a woman from Jadumali
or Madiga, the caste to which the scavengers belonged. She belonged to a higher caste and would never associate with them. In fact the half-a-dozen self-help groups in the room did not have a single member of these ‘outcastes’. Mangala said the ‘untouchables’ formed their own groups. The groups had never discussed caste discriminations earlier. Mangala, who had been apprehensive that her job as a project
coordinator should not come under a cloud for “inciting” clash, reminded the group they should “wipe out” from their mind
whatever had been discussed in the meeting. Unless social reforms keep pace with the legal provisions, caste discriminations will continue to live. The media does not
care, unless a sensational story captures its attention. Even social welfare organizations wink at it; for who wants to tilt
a carefully stacked apple cart? The biases that go back to at least 3,000 years cannot be wiped easily. Especially when it is sanctified by religion, glorified by tradition, and stoked by politicians to get votes. Filling In Your Blank Family Tree (Part 1)

By Jordan McCollum We all want to know where we come from and who are ancestors were. But many of us have yet to get past staring at a blank family tree. How can we fill in the blanks? How can we become connected to our ancestors? As you begin your family history research, the answers to these pressing questions will become clearer. Whether youre working with a four generation pedigree chart or a more artistic family tree drawing, information is key to your search. In this first of two articles, well start at the beginning and work backwards to fill in a family tree, and learn a little about organizing our information. In the second article, well push even further backward in time and learn more about our ancestors. The Beginning: A Blank Family Tree Although staring at a blank family tree might seem disheartening, its actually an excellent place to begin your genealogical research. Strange as it sounds, genealogical research begins at the end–with you. Put your full name on the first line of your first blank family tree. Use maiden names for all women. Underneath your name, there may be spaces for more information: the date and place of birth, marriage and death. If you are married, fill in the Spouse blank with his or her full (maiden) name. Tips:
Dont worry too much about information you dont know or dont remember yet–you can fill it in later. Feel free to turn to your birth certificate or marriage license for more information. You dont have to predict when youll die and where. For uncertain dates, places or names, you may want to use a pencil, but use a pen to finalize any information. Moving through Time: Working Backwards on Your Blank Family Tree Once youve filled in your information, start on your parents. Fill in birth place and date if spaces are provided. Notice that marriage date and place may only be recorded under your fathers name. If your parents are still living, leave the death date and place blank. Cant remember your parents birthdays? If your parents are still living, call them. If your parents are deceased, call a sibling, either yours or your parents, that is good with dates. If you cant find anyone who knows, or if you receive conflicting information, you can request official records or copies from the state and county where your parents were born, were married and died. This documentation is extremely valuable in research. When you have your parents information, fill in your grandparents. Write as much as you can remember, again, using a pencil for uncertain information. If your grandparents are still living, call them to confirm dates and places. Ask them for information on their parents, or fill in your great-grandparents as best you can from memory. Tips:
If youre using a numbered chart, a simple mathematical formula may help you find people more quickly. With the possible exception of #1, all other odd numbers on the chart indicate women and even numbers indicate men. Double a persons number on this chart to get the number of his or her father. Double a persons number and add one to get the number of his or her mother. This mathematical trick works on all pedigree charts arranged like this, from a four generation chart to a 200 generation chart. Dont forget to use womens maiden names as you fill in your chart. In the top right corner of the page, label this chart as Chart No. 1. In the bottom left hand corner, write your name, current address, current phone number and the date you prepared this chart. Filling in your blank family tree will take a little time, but with some effort and phone calls, you should be able to get a good start on your family history. In the second article, you can learn more about pushing your research further back, getting to know your ancestors and how professional genealogy research could help you in your quest. The Dangerous Price of Preferring Fantasy

By Jim Sniechowski Romantic fantasies, like drugs and alcohol, offer the hope of getting what you believe you cant get on your own. Also like drugs they are temporary and never ultimately satisfying.
